First draws under the Lagos HOMS to hold on Tuesday, March 4 2014
Five days to the first draw through which houses will be allocated eligible Lagosians who have duly applied under the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (HOMS), another housing estate -Shitta Housing Scheme - was Thursday handed over to the Lagos Mortgage Board in preparation for the exercise which will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.
The official handing over ceremony which was performed at the premises of the Scheme by Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Bosun Jeje, came barely a week after the handover of the Honourable Olaitan Mustapha and Alhaja Adetoun Estates to the same Board by the Commissioner who represented the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN).
Estates which will form the first batch to be won at the coming draws include the Shitta Housing Estate, Shogunro Ogba Housing Scheme, Elegant Courts Housing Scheme Ikota and those in Epe and other parts of the State.
In his remarks at the brief ceremony, the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Bosun Jeje, said the Lagos HOMS was the scientific way of the Fashola administration to address the housing deficit in the State adding that it was also in furtherance of the Governor’s desire to fulfill his electoral promises to the people of Lagos.
Describing the ceremony as significant, the Commissioner said the event marked the official takeover of the housing scheme by the Lagos Mortgage Board, the legal title owners of the housing units under the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, for onward allocation to participating members of the public under the Mortgage Law and guidelines.
He declared, “We have started; the draw will take next week Tuesday March 4, 2014, whereby the first set of lucky Lagosians would get the allocations and the Shitta Scheme where we are now happens to be one of the schemes from which the allottees will win houses on that day”.
While handing over the keys of the Estate to the Executive Director of the Lagos Mortgage Board, Mr. Bayo Forsythe, the Commissioner said, “Today signifies another day, another event-making occasion whereby we are handing over the keys of this estate to Lagos Mortgage Board, the legal owners who are managing the estates and allocating the houses”.
Receiving the keys from the Commissioner, the Executive Director of the Board, Mr. Forsythe, expressed joy that the idea and expectations of the Lagos HOMS was finally being realized with the first draw to take place next Tuesday which would give Lagosians the ownership of the first set of houses under the Scheme adding that the submission of application forms for the Tuesday’s draw would close tomorrow, Friday, February 28.
The Executive Director, however, advised those interested to purchase homes in the Shitta Housing Scheme or any of the schemes coming under the first draw to still apply within the next 24 hours saying that their forms could still be treated and their names included in the draw.
